Good point. The build pack currently assumes you do not do stuff like this. I.e. you should design your build so all artifacts are downloaded and copied into the slug (somewhere in the project directory). Do you have some evidence that this is an important pattern that should be supported?

Given your comment on #2, this probably isn't an issue anymore either. I didn't realize we had changed the way the Maven build pack worked, now it makes sense what all those cache flags were in the Maven compile script. I'll look into it more on Monday with a new Maven-based app to make sure there is parity between the two. Either way, it is probably something that should be documented -- maybe it already is, but I didn't have access to the doc yet.

Yeah, I tried it out with the application plugin and gradlew, and it works fine
