I could be a bit off, but I think roughly speaking, most plugins only open new connections on the socket file at the start. After that initial connection, the connection stream is based on a file descriptor, not the socket's file system path, and the connection's file descriptor isn't affected by deleting the socket, e.g. the client calls socket and then connect. So once the socket file in the file system is deleted, clients won't be able to dial new connections, but because most plugins will have already established all the connections they need anyway, no impact is noticed.
