not being able to cancel events easily also screws with drag and drop because the mouse
move events wind up
being propagated all the way to the browser window.

When is GWT thinking of solving this issue? Could you guys give an hint as to which
release would contain the fix for this?

I been using DOM.eventCancelBuble / DOM.eventPreventDefault with
DOM.eventGetCurrentEvent and it works perfect here IE7, ff2 and ff3 RC1.
Just need to override onBrowswerEvent...
There is also DOM.addEventPreview wich can be used to monitor event, combined with
eventGetCurrentTarget it's very handy...

Event.getCurrentEvent().cancelBubble(true); // In 1.4 and earlier
