@benknight - thanks for filing this issue. I'm going to go ahead and close it since it is a firestore issue and probably should be fixed by the consumer, since it contains potentially breaking effects.
Thanks @cdock1029 for the code fix!

This is more a firestore issue not specifically related to this library.
You can fix this when initializing your app:
import React from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';
import firebase from '@firebase/app';
import '@firebase/firestore';
import { FirestoreProvider } from "react-firestore";
import App from './App';
const config = {
apiKey: '<your_api_key>',
projectId: '<your_firebase_project_id>',
};
firebase.initializeApp(config);
// Here's the fix..
firebase.firestore().settings({ timestampsInSnapshots: true })
ReactDOM.render(
<FirestoreProvider firebase={firebase}>
<App />
</FirestoreProvider>,
document.getElementById('root'),
);
Keep in mind the warning you saw in your console:
With this change, timestamps stored in Cloud Firestore will be read back as
Firebase Timestamp objects instead of as system Date objects. So you will also
need to update code expecting a Date to instead expect a Timestamp.
