Yea.. last night when it happened I got to googling and saw these older posts and issues and articles about it.. but I'm very surprised that I only got the message now months later! It's like Google allowed me to keep using an extension that they believe to have malware for 6 additional months.. wtf right?

Also.. what is this extension then? https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/the-great-suspender/jaekigmcljkkalnicnjoafgfjoefkpeg Same name but.. different author? Is this legit? 30k installs

What are you all using now as an alternative?

What I don't understand is why it happened just now, while others have reported this already several months ago (see #1304).

@vesper8 I searched and found that this extension had been sold to an unknown third party to maintain. The third party has inserted malware to track users, so google disabled it.

I'm kind of surprised to be the first to talk about it here.

@cdauth my theory is that it has to do with chrome's security setting. A while back my chrome settings got corrupted, security was reset to default and the extension was blocked but I was able to use it again by setting security to off. For some reason that doesn't work anymore and it also disabled itself for me today.

I stopped using it months ago with the first warning, but it seems now there is another copy also in store called The Great Suspender Original. I been reading a little now here and with the explanation another extension called The Marvellous Suspender is mentioned. Logs from the issue stopped to update on Feb and seems some people still using the original and asking for features here.
