Error code 13 does not offer much information, I have asked the team to look into what might be causing this issue. If you could post your logcat output from an app run that shows this error that may help.

You can definitely test without publishing the app, but if you want to test the full flow which goes through the Play Store I'd suggest publishing the app in the "alpha" channel and whitelisting a few test accounts. It's not a fast process, I know, but it's the only way to simulate a real app install.

As for internet access, it is required even for SMS. The invitations are tracked with a unique ID through the AppInvites server, so that requires internet access to succeed.

  1. Ok, I will try to get the logcat. But I had seen the logs and if you filter using the AppInvite Tag, only "create invitations failed due to error code 13" was mentioned.

  2. If I want to test an apk without publishing in the Play Store, is it possible? What are the steps or anything custom needed?

  3. So, does this mean that Appinvite will fail to invite people using SMS in offline scenarios? Or will it still send the SMS and the tracking will be 'synced' the next time the mobile is online again?

  4. I tried this app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.refractored.coffeefilter&hl=en ) to test the App Invite. This was built by using Xamarin by one of the best Xamarin developers. The problem I am facing in using this App is that even though the email invites are send successfully, the SMS invites are never actually send (even though it does say that invite send successfully). Also, the SMS are never actually send, they are just available as UnSend SMS in the SMS app and were not send. I tested this with Moto G -2nd Generation (with Android Lollipop OS).
So, my question is: Is the AppInvite feature supported in all Android devices or does it depend on the Device Vendor or the Default SMS app? Have you tested AppInvite for Moto G - 2nd Generation? But the same app works fine from a device using Google Hangouts as the main SMS app (https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/comment/145737#Comment_145737)

Regarding point 4, Moto G 2nd Gen is a dual sim device. I also tested by making Hangouts my default SMS app, but that also failed. Is AppInvite using SMS supported in dual sim phones? Has this case been tested, or is there a list of supported dual sim phones that can be used?

Did you go through the process [here[(https://developers.google.com/mobile/add) to get a google-services.json file and put it in the right place? This sounds like a configuration error.

  1. OK, then it sounds like the logcat won't provide anything new.
  2. You can test without publishing to the Play Store, you just obviously won't be able to test the flow of "new user installs from the Play Store with a deep link". Also your email invitations will be very plain since there will be no Play Store images to include.
  3. Yes, AppInvite will fail in offline scenarios.
  4. Dual SIM should not be a problem.

No, I didn't put the json file (as instructed not to put this configuration file in this blog post: https://blog.xamarin.com/expand-your-apps-reach-with-googles-app-invites/ ). Are you sure it is a configuration issue? Because the app mentioned in this post seems to work fine ( https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/comment/145737#Comment_145737 ).

Yes you need the JSON file for this application to work, please try running
this app and following the instructions. If it's an issue with a Xamarin
sample I can't address that here.
