The library needs to be added by reference. If you go to Package Explorer > Properties>Android>Library Add and select the Google Play Svcs Library. If this is not an option, you need to add the Google play svs. Do this by selecting Extras >google play services in your SDK Manager

The point is google play services library is already added!!
If it helps, you can download and see my app containing this error works perfectly fine with admob but with this error printing in logcat.

Someone have decompiled google play services library and pointed out exactly where the code is wrong... I cannot validate the claim but you could.
"There is no R.class in com.google.android.gms.common package."

This error is benign. As long as your application is running as intended there's nothing to worry about.
