@goodmami: thanks for this initiative. I would welcome a separately maintained Python implementation of the WordNet interface, and a staged phase-out of the NLTK version where it is first deprecated then dropped.

I'd be willing to process PRs to update the online book, if someone is inclined to suggest the necessary updates.

There are now a couple of releases on PyPI so I will close this issue.
I'd be happy to help with writing updates to the book, but perhaps we should wait just a little bit in case any changes are needed to the API once people start using this module. What we could do now, though, is put a "See also" link to this module, similar to how Python's standard library documentation for urllib.request directs users to the Requests package.
