Of course there is really no good way to tell that 002 or 003 formerly belonged to one branch or another. It's not how git thinks.
To support this use case it may be necessary for the master branch to not be in hideBranches. So that you can always tell that you are X commits away from the last tagged release on the master branch (as opposed to X commits away on the release branch, which would look the same if master didn't appear in the version name).
