We were talking about this a couple weeks back here at the office. In PG we can index this query so its not a problem.
A future release will make this value static (as its static anyways), but I want a better algorithm before it gets denormalized into a field.

I will do you one better and we'll just denormalize the score in the next build.
I actually had a signal that was listening to create the index for a while, but Django wasn't playing nice with that.

1.7.0 will include the new score column which will address this change
