This should be fixed in 1.5.0 (not on PyPi yet)

Better coersion support did not seem sufficient to solve the problem entirely: now sometimes types are pickled which are not built in to Python. This can cause ImportErrors, for example with string-like types which are not converted to unicode.
Please refer to my pull request, in which I have made an (IMHO) rather sloppy patch for this issue.
