You should be able to do a https://golang.org/pkg/sort/
from reg.
It indeed would be very useful if tags were sorted by creation date. I was trying to implement it, and I did it, but there are some problems. My thoughts below.
This is a static application without any own storage, which during it's work always makes requests to Docker Registry API for getting any kind of information. On tags page we see such information as image name, tag and creation date. Full list of image tags we can promptly get from Docker Registry API using single call. But such information as creation date contains in the image manifest, so to retrieve creation date for particular image we should fetch manifest for that particular image. So for example for big repository(thousands images) during tags page build application makes thousands calls to API. I was trying to avoid it and reduce time for tags page creation via pagination implementation #89. Pagination allowed me to browse across big repositories, but this is not very useful if images aren't ordered by date.
To perform sorting by creation date we should anyway fetch manifest for every image in repository. To make this process faster I played and updated application code to make concurrent (get manifest) calls instead of serial one by one. I tested updated application which performs 200 concurrent calls to registry api and it was indeed faster but still took time.
For further page load speed up, we can increase amount of concurrent calls, but it can lead to load increasing for servers and for Docker Registry itself. Or perhaps introducing some background job for filling in intermediate storage and then get info from that storage. Or something else. Maybe @jessfraz have some ideas.

I'm waiting for that feature. Any updates?
