This is a very good use case. I had an idea to solve it in an automatic way. So that whenever you add/remove/update/move an item to the data source, you get the animation done for you. But I don't think I have time to do it now.
For now, you can use your way or you can implement something like that: (Not really sure if that will compile)
extension BasicDataSource where Item: Comparable {
func onItemsChanged(old: [Item], new: [Item]) {
// compare old and new
// create insert,delete,move,update arrays
ds_reusableViewDelegate?.ds_performBatchUpdates({ ... })
}
var items: [Items] {
didSet { onItemsChanged(old: oldValue, new: items) }
}
}
This way all you need to do is to say
dataSource.items.append("new item")
from genericdatasource.
I can work on this in my free time :)
I will get back to you later on this

Sounds good!
