I like this idea. By copying the library in the model, it's quite simple to keep the model consistent.
I think upgrading libraries will be the difficult part, since parts of the model will be linked to the library. Maybe we can benefit from the merge conflict resolution code here.
We can have a separate model element for libraries.
Implementation idea: keep a copy of the original library model (as xml) in the library so we can do a 3-way merge on library upgrades.
