Update: this appears to be at least partially model specific -- it doesn't happen on my MBA (13", mid-2011), only on my MBP (13", late 2013).

I cannot reproduce this.
I tried:
make uninstall
make clean
make install
make install-plist
Redid the acceptance dance in System Preferences, then:
cmd-key-happy-restart
and all is well. All this on a 15" rMBP late 2013.
