Yeah this would actually be a "problem" with jquery and not freeboard (we use jquery to make the AJAX request). I think the jquery library adds this parameter to the URL to prevent the browser from using a cached version of the document. I'm not sure this is something we'd want to turn off (or that we even can without branching jquery). Have you reached out to MSFT to find out if they have a way to address this? Seems pretty nuts that they wouldn't have a way to support something as popular as jquery.

It seems to be resolved after I whitelisted freeboard.io, not sure exactly of the the mechanics between JQuery and Azure but teh behaviour has changed. I can confirm getting data from Azure Mobile Services is working.
