I want to start by documenting existing naming conventions.
At this stage, I want to keep an open mind as to what/how we might represent this in NAME
tags and subtags.
from gedcom-name.
What I want to include as well and maybe as a point of discussion is how other family historians enter identities into the NAME tag when all they can enter is given name and surname.
Identities such as:
King Richard the Lion Hearted (title and descriptive)
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (patronymic and location)
Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba (surname and location)
Olaf Andreson Bruflot (patronymic and farm)
Santiago Ramón y Cajal (double-barreled multiple surname)
Should identity based tags, such as NATI
, and TITL
have some need to be included into the NAME
tag as part of a person’s identity within a family, community or international context.
How should double-barreled names from the Hispanic traditions (Santiago Ramón y Cajal) where two surnames should be index rather than the first one when only the NAME
tag is transmitted!
Again, this probably need to be a discussion.
