I believe creating a custom reading buffer thingy has been simplified in Libav recently. Maybe it will soon be time to have a go at this.

There's also Matroska files with ordered chapters.
Right now, files other than the main video file seem to be silently ignored.

would have been nice to see that fixed. any reason it was not? to me, "No point" makes no sense. I mean, of course, there is. but what do I know.
