Option to create copies of assets in webp / avif formats upon build about vite-plugin-image-optimizer HOT 1 CLOSED

Hello @hjelmdal, I have thought about this and here is my perspective:

I suggest that we keep the purpose of the plugin focused on image optimization rather than image generation, as mixing these two functionalities could lead to complications and confusion about the plugin's intended purpose.

There are several factors that we need to consider, such as how to update the image paths in the source files to point to the new format(s), how to add a new <source> if using a <picture> element, and the fact that image assets in the /src directory come with hashes making it difficult to determine their file name. Additionally, it would not be logical to apply this only to image assets in the /public directory.

In an ideal scenario, we would use a generator plugin (like vite-imagetools or similiar) to generate the webp or avif images and then use an optimizer plugin.
