Hi,

this are many questions at once, so I will try to answer them one by one.

  1. With each release we normally use a newer version of ROOT, so the answer is yes. If you want to know if we will switch to ROOT6 then the answer is also yes, but I can't give you any date for this movement.
  2. Why should FairSoft include gcc 4.8? This is not our responsibility, the compiler is part of the linux distribution you use. If the linux distribution doesn't deliver new compilers, you have to install it on your own. Actually the macro to install gcc isn't simple because gcc neeeds some dependencies. Maybe we will provide some macros for installing gcc but this will be no part of FairSoft.
  3. Why do you claim FairSoft isn't considering 32bit systems? FairSoft can be compiled on 32bit systems. I know of installations on openSuse 13.1 (very new system).

Ciao

Thanks for your reply.

  1. Okay. That's thing I can apply for our own use.
  2. You're right. We're using SL 6.1 and found out that it doesn't support newer stable version of gcc. So, I've gone too far because updating operating system in common server is not that small thing.
  3. I just look up the fairroot homepage and tested systems are only 64bit so I thought like that.
