The problem is due to problems in TGeant3. If this package is compiled with optimization using newer versions of gfortran (the problem was seen with 4.8 (Linux, Mac) and 4.9 (Mac)) either the code crashes during the initilization stage of Geant3 (Linux) or it will run in an infinite loop and never ends (Mac). The solution for the time being (until the problem is solved in Geant3) is to switch of the build of Geant3 with optimization. This is done automatically for the Linux platform but this was missing for Mac OSX. Fixed this now in our install_geant3.sh script
