control autohide behavior causes confusion in various browsers about html5media HOT 2 CLOSED

This is something of a problem with using native video controls, since we are at the mercy of browser implementations and cannot really control them.

There's not too much we can do here. Ideally the browser native controls would overlay a nice big play button over the top of the main video area, but they don't. html5media is just a compatibility shim to allow video tags to work in browsers that don't support them, it doesn't aim to alter video implementations for browsers which do support it.

If the problem is that safari won't play the video when it's poster image is clicked, then I'd suggest adding a bit of javascript that detects safari, and starts the video playing on a click handler. It's slightly kludgy, but it should work just fine.

Thanks Dave, that helps. The html5media script is a great solution to making video work on many platforms and I'm so glad I found it. I've been maintaining an educational site for 17 years, but I'm still not exactly a programmer, and the script has made it possible for my videos to finally reach mobile devices.
