Install Erlang from somewhere else than your distro's packages, or make sure you have attached libraries and OpenSSL stuff for crypto. This is an issue that happens all the time and has been 100% attached to package managers in my experience.

Odd to hear that is the case with erln8. I use deb packages from Erlang Solutions as well as source built with erln8 and haven't seen this issue.
Maybe you don't have some necessary openssl stuff installed so erln8 skips it...

Thanks for the help, guys. There is something weird going on with my openssl install from homebrew. I ended up having to tell erln8 specifically where my openssl libs were before I could get the crypto lib to compile.
Sorry for the noise as this was an issue with my erlang install and not a specific rebar3 problem.
As a side note, I'm trying out a new project with rebar3 and things seem to be going well. Keep plugging along!
