VRML file extension about mayavi HOT 4 CLOSED

I suspect you have an old version of Mayavi. With the latest sources, this works as expected, i.e. mlab.savefig('foo.wrl') saves out a VRML file for me.

Could it be a VTK with VRML support not enabled at compile time?

No, I do not think there is such an option in VTK and the code in tvtk/pyface/tvtk_scene.py clearly does the right thing for .wrl and .vrml. See:

It was mistake at my side.
I ended with .wrl.png files in folder, but it seems they were created with save button (in mlab.show() dialog) and without selecting 'determine file by extension' from drop down menu, as there seem no other way for this to happen.
It was probably silly oversight not worth explaining.
