My guess, based on the chart in https://github.com/emp-toolkit/emp-ot, is that:

• if computation power is strong enough, then yes, FerretOT should work. And the change should be doable by replacing IKNP in sh_party.h with the Ferret one and fixing the rest of the code, mostly those handling the setup.
• otherwise, if computation power is only modest, then FerretOT would be useful if the network bandwidth is low.
• note that if the computation is of a very small scale, then FerretOT may not be beneficial (FerretOT generates a lot of OT triples in batches), and IKNP should be good enough.

Yes we are indeed thinking about it and we want to do it in the right way: no impact to existing code, no slow down and easy to switch between FERRET and IKNP :)
