Keeping cvmfscatalog files reduces this to 10 minutes (for 2M files). That's workable.
We will have to keep environment views off (except for testing with single packages) until we can exclude the files in the view creation itself.

After two actions, we are now down to 8 minutes to release:
- removed all unnecessary packages (a thorough
spack gcafter uninstalling all explicitly installed packages not in an environment) - keep the
.cvmfscatalogfiles in place
I will close this bug report since #88 is essentially what we need to be able to enable this again.
