Delete the manual index, and let pandoc create the table of contents about free-programming-books HOT 4 CLOSED

Well I spent several hours with pandoc and couldnt get it working. Found an alternate solution though, try it out online:

Hum, I have now problem with pandoc
pandoc free-programming-books.md -o free-programming.pdf
to obtain a pdf output (need to have a LaTeX installation)

pandoc free-programming-books.md -o free-programming.html

to obtain an html output

Pandoc is good for converting from one format to another.. I think it would be something like:

pandoc -f markdown -t markdown --toc free-programming-books.md

But for me, that doesnt do anything. probably because it understand a different type of markdown. I've also tried with strict_markdown to no avail.

doctoc works great. Even if your markdown file has a TOC already, it will know what to do, ie. update it accordingly (instead of treating the existing TOC as part of the content).

Hum. In my case also, markdown to markdown do nothing. But I was thinking markdown to final format(pdf, html). I will read this week-end about doctoc: maybe we could use it to correct automatically the toc.
