Hi @Michelebuffa Did it work when it arrived? I mean did it ever work? I check all screens before I ship.

And I see you defined all the pins, but did you also define the right driver in the User_Setup.h?

Try overwriting everything that is in the current User_Setup.h with the contents of the User_Setup.h file in https://github.com/DustinWatts/esp32-touchdown/tree/main/Examples/TFT_eSPI%20Setup%20Example. Maybe something else is not configured properly, this way you know for sure....

I see that you have included a setup file for your card in the TFT_eSPI library,
https://github.com/Bodmer/TFT_eSPI/blob/master/User_Setups/Setup204_ESP32_TouchDown.h
therefore I attempted to edit the User_Setup and User_Setup_Select files, roughly following your example directions. These are the files I'm using:

Setup204_ESP32_TouchDown.txt
User_Setup.txt
User_Setup_Select.txt

I also tried to use the web installer for FreeTouchDeck too .... and the "grey screen" came out !

Back to my other question, did it work when you first powered it up? All ESP32 TouchDown's are tested and are shipped with FreeTouchDeck on them.

Edit: The grey screen is a black screen with the backlight on. So that works 😄

No screen appeared when first turned on !

Michelebuffa avatar Michelebuffa commented on August 18, 2024

It should just be a library problem, since the screen backlight works!

DustinWatts avatar DustinWatts commented on August 18, 2024

Well... not really because the it could be that the screen is broken or the connection is bad. So backlight works but SPI not.

On the back of the TouchDown there is a large FPC (flat cable) connector. Try and open it with the two black locking devices (be careful not to break it) by pushing them towards the USB edge of the board. Hold the board flush when you do this. You can lay it down on the screen. You don't have to go to far, just a few mm. Take out the FPC cable. Push it in again as far as it will go and close the two black locking devices again, This to make sure the screen makes a good connection to the board.

Make sure to push both black locks in!

I closed the connector, reconnected the board to the power supply and .......

I saw one of the black locks not quite closed. Is it now?

If you can't get the display to work, I always have a wireless "touch pad" wireless lol

DustinWatts avatar DustinWatts commented on August 18, 2024

Yeah that looks good now. Try using the webinstaller one more time, because in there (in that binary) the pins are configured correctly. Be sure to use the ESP32 TouchDown version.

If that does not work, I am confident enough to say either the screen broke, or the connector. Then, message me the details of your purchase (ordernumber, and where you bought it) to [email protected] and I will see what I can do to get you a working ESP32 TouchDown.

I try again with the web installer, in case I send you an email.

Great, I will wait for your email. I will close this issue for now. But will update it with my findings about the screen later. You can always reopen it off course!
