good question. At the moment I am on the road to bring my ideas together with this extension: https://github.com/DrWh0286/permission-sets from Benni Mack. The reason is, that this synch stuff is really annoying and complex and the basic idea behind Benni's extension is a bit easier.
But I will make at least the current features of this extension TYPO3 12 ready. Unfortunately I can't tell you an exact date. Do you need this for a running project?
If I will give up the current way of doing this, I will try to offer some migration.

yes we need this for an running project.

We want to have the system updated to the next version by the end of July. Maybe I'll make your extension ready - depending on how much work it is :-)

What is the difference between this project and https://github.com/DrWh0286/permission-sets ?
