Hi. I apologise for late response. I will probably expand on the guide and instructions in the wiki or readme file on how to use the extension asap.
Haven't made changes for a long time
I will try to help you here how to scrape the data. I hope below explanation will be helpful. I would also like to point that I have not made changes to extension for last few months and been busy with school and some updates on linked in website design might have led to incorrect scraping or no scraping at all in some cases. I will try to work to correct those.
guideline on using extension
For the extension to work you have to be on the linkedin profile of the target user. Click on extension icon when u r on the target profile and a sidebar will appear.
To extract basic data
On the extension to extract the "header profile basic data" you can simply "scroll with your mouse" within the extension.( I know major UX drawback and it is simply stupid on my part. I will make appropriate changes soon.)
Below image shows a message in small text that tells user to scroll the sidebar to extract basic profile data here.
To extract other sections
To extract each profile section like "Education", "Experience" or "Skills" you can press the "extract
Now remember that it is not necessary whether the scraped data is clean or correct. I do have a table in the readme
file to tell you exactly which section's data the extension can scrape or not
and whether it is clean or not
. Currently there are many sections that cannot be extracted properly because I haven't updated the extension for long time so you might have to visually verify and make changes to the scraped data manually but that was not what I had in mine and I apologise again for that. I will try to get back to making changes soon.
Deepscan
To understand working of deepscan feature and what it is, you can refer to this thread on issues section.
I hope this helped you. I know the UI/UX and a lot of things are not working out as of now. I will try to make it all work asap. Feel free to have follow up questions. I would glad to help.
