The driver is from the same project. If you go to releases, you'll find pre-built packages. I got the driver rpm from there.

Are you using X11 or Wayland? Wayland is the default for fedora but displaylink will only work with X11.
You can see what you are by using:
loginctl
Then:
loginctl show-session <SESSION_ID> -p Type
Where <SESSION_ID> is the one corresponding to your user name.
If you are are using Wayland try logging out and singing in again using X11 by using the gear icon on the login screen to change the session type to "GNOME on Xorg".

@alhalama I am using X11.

If I look at the sound settings, the laptop can "see" the dock but still can't output an image on the displays.

This was resolved by disabling Wayland on Fedora 28 with kernel 4.16
from displaylink-rpm.
@ACiDGRiM Nope. Still no luck with Fedora 28 and kernel 4.16.12.

Thank guys, the wayland issues fixed my problem! Way to go!
from displaylink-rpm.
@SunUltraSparc Just disabling Wayland fixed it for you? Or did you do something else too? Can you share the steps to fix it?
from displaylink-rpm.
My resolution was:
-
Disable DisplayLink Drivers I downloaded from Display Link
/opt/displaylink/suspend.sh -
Checked to make sure the RPM from releases was installed
https://github.com/displaylink-rpm/displaylink-rpm/releases
(I used the fedora 27 on 28 with Kernal 4.16.12-300.fc28.x86_64 -
Checked service
systemctl status displaylink.service -
Checked for module
lsmod | grep evdi -
grabbed session id
loginctl -
Check for type
loginctl show-session <SESSION_ID> -p Type -
Logged in with Xorg
Plugged in display and it worked -
Changed the gnome preferences found in this article

Reboot!
Last my model is a: Asus MB168B
Which you can find with this command "usb-devices |awk /17e9/ RS="
from displaylink-rpm.
@SunUltraSparc I've followed the same steps. No luck.
This is in the output of usb-devices

Could Driver=(none)
be the problem?

Reinstalled everything again. And it works now!
Still have the issue of external monitors turning off randomly with the laptop lid closed but at least the displays work off of the hub now.
Closing the issue.

I have tried on a few releases of fedora and the best I get is blue and pink bands down the display. I have seen the display work on a windows machine so I know it is good.
The latest attempt was on a Lenovo T420 with F28 and the packaged x86_64 rpm.
Any suggestions?
