The commit history of the LICENSE file indicates that the levenshtein_search library went from MIT to GPL on December 28,2019 https://github.com/mattandahalfew/Levenshtein_search/commits/master/LICENSE

The commit history of several scripts where the version number changed to 1.4.5 (commit titled 'Update version numbers') occurred on December 30, 2019 mattandahalfew/Levenshtein_search@eb10ece

It seems that both of these commits were part of a pull request that got merged into master on March 8, 2021 https://github.com/mattandahalfew/Levenshtein_search/pull/21/files

pypi indicates that 1.4.5 was released on December 30, 2019 - two days after the LICENSE file commit to GPL but about 14 months before that commit was merged to master https://pypi.org/project/Levenshtein-search/#history

Given this commit history, how was the conclusion made that 1.4.5 is MIT licensed?

good sleuthing. it wasn't. dedupe now depends on https://github.com/dedupeio/Levenshtein_search, which forks at https://github.com/dedupeio/Levenshtein_search/tree/dc50b04d0b41a8bf190ade70e8d3292dbb673ec8

when it was MIT licensed!
