Is this something that DataJoint should implement? Or could those (few) applications that require this kind of insertions on a background thread just call the normal dj.BaseRelvar.insert via parfeval?

I agree with Andreas. Sounds like feature creep to me. I'd be very hesitant with adopting all those latest gimmicks Matlab introduces with its new releases.

True. We could let users handle this. It may involve a bit of programming to provide a check that all inserts were performed.

parfeval is a basic thread object constructor that should have been there a decade ago.
