it looks like, for some reason, calling jobStatus failed inside DRMAA.
Unfortunately I'm not personally familiar enough with DRMAA to diagnose
this. You might want to ask upstream at

Thanks for getting back to me, it looks like under some circumstances python-drmaa fails in a multithreaded/multiprocess environment. (See pygridtools/drmaa-python#44 which it turns out was reported by someone else using the same cluster I am.)
I think my options are to either figure out how python-drmaa is failing or write my own cluster manager implementation that uses IPC instead of coroutines to ensure all drmaa interaction is done within a single thread (ugh.)
