To expand this with my 2 cents, I'd actually love to see a "single-entry" system similar to gnome 3. Instead of having to learn several multikey shortcuts, you can just hit the meta key (or swipe up i guess) and you can easy switch windows, workspaces, or type a couple characters and open a new program or search onne of the global search plugins. It's such a fast simple system in practice, and also easy to teach because you don't have to tell people to remember a bunch of different shortcuts to piviot between what they're doing now and what they want to do next.

you can always make optional extra shortcuts/buttons that go to a specific view, like apps view or windows view, but they all can work together harmoniously without users having to go to several places once they know how it works. It's very hard in my opinion to move away form this workflow once given a real chance.

But I definitely would agree more search results as plugins are a fantastic idea. Lots of examples from other desktops like unity's scopes, gnome's search providers, krunner's runners.

You will be able to just type within the launcher, and it will automatically start the search
