Drop IE8 or IE7? Dropping IE7 is totally fine. Moving to Compass with PIE should fix most IE7 and 8 issues easy. Dropping IE8 will severely limit the audience of this though.

@scottkellum Dropping IE7 only :)

Drop IE7

I'm not a fan of *{ box-sizing:border-box; }.

jQuery has only supported border-box since August 2012 (1.8), so its use requires considering more than just browser support.

Selective use is preferable, it allows backward compatibility if required.

Bias: some clients pay handsomely for IE7 support.

integrate quite so well in that it would lead to the addition of a lot of redundant styling, particularly around headings.

I'd say put all those in a ie7.scss file, (possibly rewriting a rule to use the old normalize.css, and regressing the box-sizing rules when possible).

Make sure to add a comment on the file stating that you will not maintain it but accept pull requests.

@peterwilsoncc if you need box-sizing support for IE7 try this https://github.com/Schepp/box-sizing-polyfill. Although using the * selector maybe a bit intensive.

@peterwilsoncc I’ve made that optional, then :) adb6462

Bias: some clients pay handsomely for IE7 support.

Bias: inuit.css will never see any of that money ;) If you want to charge your clients extra for supporting IE7, then put that cash toward supporting IE7 :P

@csswizardry Thanks Harry.

You're right, of course, I'm effectively on the take. 💰

csswizardry avatar csswizardry commented on May 30, 2024

I was being facetious, of course… inuit.css doesn’t concern itself with money :) There is now a tag at the latest IE7 compatible release so if you do need to support it you can.

normalize.css is in and the global border-box is now optional. It looks like inuit.css v4.2 is dropping IE7! :D

Thanks everyone :)

Yeah, mate, I know :-)

Was only semi-serious myself, although I do think it relevant that it helps my boss make payroll.

That was a typo, sorry. Dropped IE7. The last unofficial IE7 version was 2775864572.
