I have created a PR to make it work.
$content-max-width in default value of mixin could be transferred.

We are also running into this issue. The old define-mixin syntax supported variables as defaults. Right now we're just hardcoding the default values with a comment about which variables they represent.

I also have this issue. Previously I was able to do this with @define-mixin but no longer.
