Sounds nice, and is a path the fellows already are on, I think. New Entry creation from fields in 2.5 is already there, if you noticed it...

I was just coming to add this exact request, but voted up this one instead. I would like to see this as an addition to current functionality, not a replacement.

Indeed. The separation of these two things makes it cumbersome when creating all the content types and fields for a new site.
