Nvm, looks like I found it. Simply using:
r.URL.Query().Get("secret")Tried searching mux/gorilla for something similar/built-in but to no avail. Is this the proper way?

The muxer only puts variables in if you use it in the url like /endpoing/{foo}/index. Otherwise, it's a standard query variable and what you are doing with the standard library above is correct.
