Maybe the simplest thing would actually be:

ostree.message=<single line text here> ? We could use that for a variety of purposes. So for example given https://pagure.io/atomic-wg/issue/303 we could add:

ostree.message=Fedora 26 Atomic Host is available now: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Atomic_Host_upgrade

to the f25 stream now.

Then perhaps when F25 goes EOL we could consider injecting the automatic rebase?

Can we make the "message" configurable so that we can include various text. I could see one use of this would be to inform users of what upstream they could rebase to.

That was the intent, IIUC.

ostree commit --add-detached-metadata-string="endoflife=Custom message..."

Perhaps with ostreedev/ostree#94 we could even avoid requiring a new commit.
