I think, filtering the data before binding it to the scope would solve the problem for now.

How can you filter the data by something that you don't know? The point of the filters is that it allows users to "fast-search" through large amounts of options. I really think this needs to be supported.

What I meant was that you can filter the data in the controller (instead in the template like user in users | someFilter) before binding it to the $scope.

Instead of,
$scope.data = data;

you can do,
var data = $filter('someFilter')(data);
$scope.data = data;
