Figure this out.
-
When you want a toc at the very top of the page, with a max-width of 300, set
toc: true
in the front-matter. -
When you want a toc somewhere else, say, after an intro paragraph, and you want a max-width of 300, set
toc: false
in the front-matter and add<div id="toc"></div>
where the toc should show up. -
When you want a toc somewhere else, say, after an intro paragraph, and you want a different width, set
toc: false
in the front-matter, add<div id="toc"></div>
where the toc should show up, and add this bit of in-line styling somewhere on the page:<style> div#toc ul { max-width: 80%; } </style>.
where the % reflects the width you want.
Long-term, there are more efficient ways to do this using Liquid and includes, but this works fine for now.
