Yes it can. The widget is made to work with any 'Export Web Map Task' from server. Can you post the url of your print service and post the error you are getting?

It is a secured print service I would have to check without IT first. I copied it into where you had the demo print service and change some of the defaults and the name and when I press print I get this error.

I can't seem to copy the picture into this text box..

It just says

Are there errors in firebug or the web console? Also look at the request response, there could be some info there as well. Also if the map services you are trying to print are secure as well, you will need to do the following to the print service itself: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//0154000005q3000000

I ran into a similar error when configuring the print widget, and figured I'd leave a comment here in case someone with a similar setup to mine runs into it. I had to make two changes to my project:

1. Changed the geoprocessing print service from "asynchronous" to "synchronous". The ArcGIS server logs showed that asynchronous printing was not allowed.
2. I am printing from secured services and had to set alwaysUseProxy to "true." This allowed the webmap to retrieve the map once it was printed.

I'm also getting the "Error, try again" message while trying to export to a custom print layout. I've tried mosanderonimo's advice and confirmed that it's set to "synchronous" and alwaysUseProxy is "True" and im getting the same results. is there any news on this front?
