Suggestion: Take a look at Symphony CMS UI about calipso HOT 6 CLOSED

I really don't like a lot of Symphony's UI. Wordpress, as terrible as the code may be, has a much better admin UI.

Squarespace actually has the best UI.

@kmiyashiro - we're talking about the same symphony? I think their admin UI is well organized. I haven't used Wordpress in a while but i really don't think their admin is that great. I've never used squarespace before.

@dtan Yes, I've used Symphony (XML/XLST based) for almost 5 years now. The target audiences are different, but Wordpress manages to do pretty well for both advanced and casual users. It's still not "omg so good", but definitely better than Symphony.

Symphony has a ton of very basic UI problems that have been there forever. Wordpress continues to improve.

ok, just making sure b/c i know a lot of people would just default to symfony. yes, symphony is targeted more towards a developer base than a casual user. I guess since i'm coming from that area i'm used to that type of interface and not a wordpress one where it's widespread for most people. I opened an issue about being able to delete a user waaay too easily. Small details like that i think symphony handles well in that you have to navigate to another part of the screen to delete something. how does wp handle that type of stuff? is it somewhat similar?

I don't remember, but basic UI conventions say to always make sure the user meant to do something if what they are trying to do is fairly rare and has a large impact. That's pretty basic, you can find examples of that anywhere.

Even better is to allow Undo so you don't get in the user's way. See GMail's UI when deleting and sending mail, or Google Docs, or any version control system (and Wordpress).
