I'm guessing that's something to do with Debian aliasing sh(1) to dash(1)? If switching to bash -c fixes the problem then I'm inclined to try that, at least bash is vaguely consistent cross-platform.

I'll try and take a look at this later in the week, but happy to accept another pull request if you fancy fixing it @kucaahbe :)

Seems it's about dash (I'm not so experienced to dive into dash C sources and find out what exactly it does with -c). in any case bash -c more stable than unknown_sh -c on different *nix distributions. Pull request attached.
