Hi! I know it doesn't address the topic directly (mixing packages and slices), but in your particular case could you get away with using build-essential as build-packages?

Hi! Thanks for the tip. The snippet above is a simpler version of the charmcraft.yaml. I will probably be able to stage the chiseled packages but I though this issue could be useful input for you folks. It doesn't seem far-fetched to me to want to stage a mix of chiseled and non chiseled packages.

Supporting the mix is not in our plans as they could potentially cause conflict, separate parts allow for this conflict resolution.
