Explored a few different approaches for resolving this. Tried implementing templates pre-compiled into a single Require module by the Grunt JST task, but this would have required creating views with overridden functions for rendering (with something like: return window.JST[template](data);) and extending those views.

Instead, I've settled on simply continuing to use the Require JS text plugin and, when adding a template to a view, running the modules content through the Underscore template function, the same way one may do in plain Backbone. This way, the modules are still compiled by the Require task, during build, and there's no need to extend views from some modified base.
