Minor suggestion: writing to the database should not be the responsibility of the Factory API--it should be strictly focused on generating and managing assignments on behalf of the frontend. This will enable a few flexibilities:
- Testing will not have to work around database rewrites
- No race conditions between Python API and Dashboard
- And generally making this thing run faster and not require compiling
pyodbc
The dashboard is already communicating with the database via Entity Framework, and as such, is far better suited to handle future database changes in a flexible manner.
