It wasn't low hanging fruit, since the diagrams are trivial to change (they're text) (see gitdown to see how this works).
In my (pretty stubborn) imagination, 0MQ message flows have a direction, which I usually draw as top to bottom. In some cases the clients are up (REQ-REP), sometimes they're down (PUB-SUB). The frontend always faces up, the backend always down. So for a pubsub device the frontend acts as a subscriber, the backend acts as a publisher.
