This seems reasonable, though will defer to @whyrusleeping on the details.

I would point out that even if this one change did make builds easier on, eg, arm64, I don't think we would be ready to commit to that kind of support going forward quite yet. Eg, might introduce other tricky dependencies in the future. At some point we should have a properly scoped and stabilized API and set of services that we do commit to supporting cross-platform.
